WAKARPAY WETLAND – LUCRE / 1 DAY

It is located 29 km from the Tourist Corridor Cusco – Puno, 25 minutes by land, belongs to the district of Lucre, province of Quispicanchis, department of Cusco.

The Wakarpay Lagoon covers an area of ​​400 hectares. With approximately 100 species of birds, some migratory others occasional and many residents.

The Lagoon of Wakarpay presents Flora and Fauna rich and varied, is a tourist attraction for Ornithologists because of the existence of migrant birds from the North pole to the South pole and vice versa.

The Wakarpay Lagoon, is a Natural Tourist Attraction, has peculiar environmental characteristics, where many migratory birds are settled. It is one of the most important Ecosystems of this type in the
Valley of Cusco.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 – 5:00 A.M. CUSCO – WAKARPAY.– We leave from the city of Cusco by private bus or by local bus, the trip is approximately 25 minutes.

We arrived at Wakarpay’s whereabouts, we started walking for about 5 minutes and found the track of the Tourist Circuit that is all around the lagoon. It is important to arrive early to the lagoon to watch the birds wake up, hear their songs and watch them move in different directions in search of food. You can observe with tranquility the permanence of some birds in the Lagoon in all the day like: Herons, Wild Ducks of green neck, Diver, etc.

At noon we have a break. Box lunch. In the afternoon we continue hiking around the lagoon and observe the diversity of flora that this area presents.

At dusk we are located in strategic places where we can observe the return of the birds. It is a spectacle never seen by the amount of birds that return to the Wetland, the bustle of their songs, their movements in their places of rest and accommodating until the other day. Approximately we return to the city of Cusco at 6:00 p.m.
