to Lake Umayo, where you can visit one of the largest cemeteries in the
world, housing almost 100 Chullpas (ancient funery towers). As far as
the specifics are concerned, each of these towers are about 12 meters
high and the width increase from bottom-up. The dead bodies were
mummified and were placed in a position where their back was curved,
head bowed down, and limbs pulled towards the chest. According to
ancient rites, objects such as jewelry, food, and stoneware was also
placed in the tombs. Once you complete the visit to the graveyard, you

Day 2 – Lake Titicaca; Uros Floating Island and
Taquile
The full day tour to the Islands of Uros and Taquile will commence at
7:00 AM when you will be picked up from your hotel to embark on a
memorable full-day boat travel on Lake Titicaca. The Uros are the
natives who live on these man-made islands created from totora grown on
Lake Titicaca. The natives knit the reeds together to form an organic
mat in order to grow thicker reeds. The houses are built on top while
the cooking is done outside the homes to avoid fires. After spending an
hour at the Island of Uros, you will proceed to the Island of Taquile.
Here you will notice that the locals speak Quechua instead of the
predominant Aymara. The Island of Taquile was once a part of the Inca
Empire and that influence can be seen in the buildings these people
make. However, their present attire owes itself to Spanish rule where
they were forced to wear peasant clothes. Once you arrive on the
island, you will get some information about it briefly, along with a
tour till it’s time for lunch. After lunch, the boat will take you back
to your hotel. This is how Peru tours of Lake Titicaca end. Overnight
